Explore Wanaka With Aloe Up Ambassador Will Jackways
With the 2020 ski season just kicking off, we figured it was time to let you in on what our Aloe Up Ambassador and pro snowboarder Will Jackways has been up to. Will and his wife Abby (who also happens to be a pro snowboarder) want to get people stoked on life and share their passions with their fellow kiwis, so they created Explore Wanaka.
Their goal is to “create adventures to inspire” and believe that despite all the craziness going on that now is the best time for kiwis to support local and experience what our beautiful country has to offer. With boarders shut and a lack of crowds, it’s almost like going back in time. After 38 consecutive back-to-back winters as a pro, Will has seen and done it all in snowboarding, from in-bounds contest results to filming video parts out in the backcountry. He feels at home in the snow and takes great pride in offering guests a different insight and a new perspective in looking at the mountains. Will is a true Wanaka local and knows his back yard (the Southern Alps) like the back of his hand and with this knowledge, he and Abby are able to design the perfect snow tour for all ages and abilities.
Will is also a ‘very keen’ golfer and from a young age spent a lot of time at the Wanaka Golf Club (it’s almost his second home when he’s not up in the mountains) His attitude on the golf course is similar to his approach to snowboarding, laid-back, humble but determined and knowledgeable. This passion for golf has seen Will tick off some amazing local and international golf courses and sees him playing off a respectable 8 handicap. Wanaka and the Southern Lakes district is an absolute golf mecca offering everything from world class championship 18 hole courses, to rural 9 hole courses on farmland. Will’s experience means he’ll ensure you get in the perfect round while surrounded by some of the most spectacular scenery New Zealand has to offer.
