Carl Read Wins Twice In Taupo

Stoked! Our Aloe Up Ambassador Carl ‘the flying mullet’ Read won the 2019 Taupo Ultramarathon! This was his very first attempt competing in an ultramarathon (100km run) and came away with both the Open & Masters titles, finishing the race in 8 hours and 27 minutes. To make this feat even more impressive, Carl had been battling sickness in the weeks before the race.

“That was brutal! But epic as well. So stoked to take the win here at Taupo. The run course was relentless. I managed to run pretty well all day and hold a good pace even though I was well in the hurtbox. In second place until the 50km ish mark and managed to haul in Nick as he was having a tough day. Hung tough and got the job done. Huge thanks to my amazing wife Paula and RR for being support crew all day once again. Craig Kirkwood ya legend, top notch effort getting me ready for this one after battling sickness for a few weeks. Carl seems to be on somewhat of a roll in 2019, adding the two Taupo titles to his Australian Ultraman title he won back in May. We can’t wait to see what challenge he’ll take on next!
